Constitution of the

Amateur Radio Club SJSU

 

ARTICLE I (Name)

 

Section 1.            The name of this organization shall be Amateur Radio Club SJSU.

 

ARTICLE II (Purpose)

 

Section 1.            The purpose of the Amateur Radio Club SJSU is to provide a resource for emergency communications to SJSU and the community, to train operators and test equipment and procedures by having drills and encouraging use of radios, to assist members in obtaining Amateur Radio licenses and equipment, to encourage installation and use of amateur radio stations on campus, to promote technical advancement and experimentation of members, to educate students, faculty, staff and the community about Amateur Radio, and to provide opportunities for socialization for members.

 

ARTICLE III (Affiliation)

 

Section 1.            Amateur Radio Club SJSU is not currently affiliated with any other organization.

 

ARTICLE IV (Membership)

 

Section 1.            Any SJSU student interested in radio, communications, or RF may join. No ham license is required.

 

Section 2.            At least eighty percent (80%) of all members of the organization are matriculated, currently enrolled students at San Jose State University.

 

Section 3.            Voting membership is restricted to matriculated, currently enrolled students, faculty, and staff at San Jose State University.

 

Section 4.            Membership in the organization will not be denied to anyone on the basis of race, religion, national origin, age, sex, disability, veteran's status, or sexual orientation, except as sanctioned by law (California Administrative Code, Title 5,

Section 41500; Education Amendments of 1972, Title IX).

 

Section 5.         There shall be no hazing.

 

ARTICLE V (Officers)

 

Section 1.            The officers of ARC will be a President, a Vice-President, a Secretary, and a Treasurer.

 

Section 2.            Term of office shall be from the time of election, until new officers take office immediately following the next election.

 

Section 3.            Vacancies will be filed by appointment by the President. If the office of President is vacant, the remaining officers will appoint a President.

 

Section 4.            All officers of ARC are matriculated, currently enrolled students at San Jose State University.

 

ARTICLE VI (Duties of Officers)

 

Section 1.            The President shall preside at all meetings, name all special committees, and appoint all committee chairs.

 

Section 2            The Vice-President shall assume the duties of the President in his/her absence. The Vice-President shall also oversee recruitment of new members and retention of current members and be responsible for any club web page.

 

Section 3            The Secretary shall record the minutes of each meeting, maintain accurate records of all business pertaining to the organization, receive and respond to all official correspondence and E-mail, and check the club mailbox frequently.

 

Section 4            The Treasurer shall collect and disburse funds as directed by the organization, make monthly financial reports to the general membership, and maintain membership lists.

 

ARTICLE VII (Nominations and Elections)

 

Section 1.             Nominations for new officers will be made from the floor at either or both of the two regular meetings preceding the annual election.

 

Section 2.            Elections will be held at the first club meeting in April. If no meeting is held in May, elections will be held at the next regular meeting.

           

Section 3.            Officers are elected by a plurality vote of the members present.

 

ARTICLE VIII (Meetings)

 

Section 1.            Regular meetings will be held on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month during the regular school year.

 

Section 2.            Officers' meetings will be held twice a month at a time and place designated by the officers.

 

Section 2.            Special meetings may be called by the President or by a petition signed by 20% of the membership.

 

Section 3.            A quorum is 30% of the membership. A quorum must be present to conduct business at any general meeting.

 

Section 4.            The parliamentary authority of this organization shall be Robert's Rules of Order. Revised

 

ARTICLE IX (Committees)

 

Section 1.     The membership may designate standing committees.

 

ARTICLE X (Dues, fees)

 

Section 1.     There are no dues or other fees to belong to or participate in this club.

 

ARTICLE XI (Amendments)

 

Section 1.            Amendments to this constitution can be proposed by a majority vote of the members at a regular meeting, or by any committee appointed by the president.

 

Section 2.            Proposed amendments must be posted where members can read them for four weeks, and read at two meetings preceding a vote to enact the amendment.

 

Section 3.            A simple majority of the currently enrolled voting members of ARC must approve the amendment.

 

Section 4.            Amendments take effect immediately upon passage, unless specified otherwise in the amendment.
